These are the portfolio mood boards Mia created when designing the vision for her muse, STARGRL. They capture the energy, attitude, and essence of STARGRL, showing how Mia transforms her muse’s spirit into DEEPLY imaginative designs WITH A POWERFUL STORY.
THE ARMOUR EFFECT
For the STARGRL collection, I became deeply inspired by the idea of protecting her shine while simultaneously allowing it to be seen. I began by researching historical armour, such as medieval plate armour, Roman cuirasses, and knightly breastplates, objects designed to guard the body while symbolising strength and power. This then evolved into an exploration of robotics and sci-fi aesthetics, which felt inherently connected to STARGRL as an eternal being, a star existing beyond time and space. I associate robots with futurism, outer space, and the unknown, which aligned naturally with her world. I explored how to translate this armour-like, robotic language into clothing through the panelling of latex. While latex is not a protective material in the traditional sense, precisely structured panelling gave it a strong, bionic, almost robotic presence. This created the image of a powerful, protected woman, while the natural shine of the latex reflects her true light allowing her strength and her shine to coexist.
