THE INSPO

THE STARGRL REFERENCE TO THIERRY MUGLER’S

1995 FEMALE ROBOT SUIT.

I envisioned STARGRL as a being forged in pieces — each section functioning like armour, her shield, her power. This concept drew me back to one of my greatest inspirations, Thierry Mugler, and his legendary female robot suit, called "Machinenmensch" (Machine Human) has captivated me for years. Mugler’s work sparked my exploration of the “robotic girl,” a fusion of femininity, futurism, and protection. To bring this to life, I panelled the latex to build a structured, mechanical aesthetic, allowing the fabric itself to operate like robotic armour.

I also wanted the models to channel the same intensity and theatrical presence seen in Mugler’s 90s runways. Capturing the emotional depth of STARGRL and the Darkness was essential. The Darkness, in particular, carries a mysterious yet seductive energy, and I worked closely with my model Samantha to craft this persona. The cigarette became a deliberate visual tool — amplifying her rebellious, dangerous “bad girl” aura and solidifying the sense that the Darkness is not someone you’d ever want to cross.
